HSSA co-hosts symposium on STEAM Education

INNOVATIVE METHODS TO ENHANCE CAREERS IN STEAM EDUCATION: Science, Technology, Engineering, ARTS and Mathematics

May 10th, 2016 10am-12pm at International House - UC Berkeley

This symposium, cohosted by the HSSA and VSPA, created insights on how humanities and social scientists can learn different methods to advance their careers goals in a changing landscape as well as how methods and tools already acquired can bring unique perspectives to new careers fields. Through recent research projects, a panel of educators, curriculum developers and a panel of artists from the Bay area and beyond, the panelists highlighted how new methods can further enhance collaboration for innovation and creativity. Furthermore the presentations addressed how the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) can be improved through acknowledgement of cultural context, putting the “A” for Arts in STEM creating the new acronym STEAM increasingly important to work in academics and non-academic fields.
