Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

Dear VSPA Affiliates,

The Humanities and Social Sciences Association (HSSA) is very happy to announce our first event of the 2013 season.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in various guises and variations are likely to exert a profound influence on education in the next decades. Participation in and knowledge of MOOCs is more limited among specialists in the Humanities and Social Sciences than it is among scientists and engineers at institutes of higher education. It is in this context that HSSA is organizing an event dedicated to MOOCs.

Please join us Wednesday, November 13 in the Homeroom (International House) for two talks about MOOCs. Alberto Todeschini will provide an overview with particular focus on the humanities and social sciences and Armando Fox will speak about his experience with MOOCs, including a brief overview of UC Berkeley's relationship with edX and the creation of the MOOCLab. There will be time to meet with the speakers following the end of the talks.

Wednesday, November 13 2013

Armando Fox is the Academic Director of the MOOCLab as well as a professor in residence in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department at UC Berkeley.
